Trivia about the South Pole

If anyone is interested in a strange fact: The magnetic South Pole is at 65° 0′ 0″ S, 138° 0′ 0″ E. This is at the edge of the ice shelf below the middle of Australia. This is from 2008 so I assume the real position is nearer 61 degrees S. Just thought you might be interested in knowing that.

Meanwhile, I'm sitting here in the town shop at 5:30 on Christmas Eve trying to finish up documentation on our AWS Webcam procedures. We had a system go down about a month ago and have been striving to get it up and working. I finally got together with the guy that put all this into service 2 years ago after the engineers gave up. I took where he left off and engineered a way to test the systems in the field instead of having to drag them all the way back to the shop. This should help make the repair turnaround about 2 hours instead of over a month. Trying to get out to the sites can be hard because of weather. We don't want to get caught out on the ice in conditions that are dangerous. Next week I plan to take this Webcam back to it's site. I am staying busy trying to determine what processes need to be documented the worst and enlist the help of my fellow technicians to create them. We've been doing inventories and getting ready to ship test equipment back to the states for calibration. There is also a Christmas party tonight for the town. Tomorrow (Christmas Day) we have our SOPP Christmas party starting at noon. It is about 40 degrees today and the airfields are deteriorating. They are talking about closing Pegasus runway. We finally got the Ice Runway closed down two weeks ago and if they have to close Pegasus that will only Willy field which is only an emergency divert field. It would be a massive effort to prepare it for full up air operations. I'll let you know more when I find out.
